When Jesus was being crucified He could have called 36,000-72,000 (12 legions) angels to protect Him. Jesus and angels are closely associated during His time on earth.
Why didn't Jesus call on angels to rescue Him? 1) Scriptures of the prophets (1 Peter 1:19-20) must be fulfilled. When God created everything it was known how it would be used. Angelic interruption was not part of the plan.
2) Jesus had been forsaken. He said it had to happen. He told his disciples they would forsake Him. Psalm 22:1 - His father had to forsake him.
Souls had to be freed from their sins.
Gods love kept Jesus on the cross.
There is nothing you have done that cannot be taken care of on the cross.
